Design and operation of compensatory programs in Mexico
Abstract
The irruption of the neoliberal model in the early eighties caused greater inequality and an exponential increase in poverty. The governments in turn tried to mitigate its effects with a series of social policies, such as Solidaridad, Progresa, Oportunidades and Prospera. In this article we will analyze the positive aspects and the shortcomings of these programs. Based on these interpretations, we will try to diagnose what remains to be done in terms of social policy.
